Port of Los Angeles Appoints New CFO and Director of Government Affairs

The Port of Los Angeles is enhancing its leadership team with strategic new appointments that aim to fortify its financial management and government relations.

Strategic Leadership Enhancements

The Port of Los Angeles has made notable strides by appointing Jeffrey Strafford as the new Chief Financial Officer and Artie Mandel as the Director of Government Affairs. These strategic moves are set to bolster the port's operational and strategic capabilities significantly.

Jeffrey Strafford: Leading Financial Innovation

Jeffrey Strafford will oversee a broad spectrum of the port's financial sectors, including accounting, debt, financial analysis, and strategic financial planning. Having served as an interim CFO since May 2024, Strafford brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, where he was instrumental in overseeing the port’s substantial $2.6 billion budget.

Strafford succeeds Marla Bleavins, who transitioned to an executive role at Los Angeles World Airports. Strafford's responsibilities will include reporting directly to Erica M. Calhoun, the Deputy Executive Director of Finance and Administration.

Artie Mandel: Steering Government Affairs

Artie Mandel steps into his role as the Director of Government Affairs, tasked with managing the port's interactions with governmental bodies across all levels—from local to federal. His responsibilities will encompass advocacy, legislative coordination, grant funding identification, and coalition building.

Mandel previously served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives, and in his new role, he will continue reporting to Avin Sharma, the Senior Director of Workforce and Government Affairs.

A New Chapter Ahead

These appointments mark an exciting chapter for the Port of Los Angeles as it seeks to enhance its strategic influence and operational efficiency. With a strong focus on integrated financial and governmental strategies, the port is well poised for future challenges and opportunities.
