GenLogs Secures $14.6M, Launches Intermodal Insights, and Sets Sights on Mexico

Freight intelligence platform GenLogs announced a breakthrough on Monday, closing a $14.6 million Series A funding round led by Venrock and HOF Capital. This funding is aimed at expanding their sensor network tracking assets across the United States, positioning the company for significant growth.

Participating in the round were notable investors including Steel Atlas, AutoTech Ventures, Venture 53, TitletownTech, Plug and Play Ventures, and Heartland Ventures. Since 2023, GenLogs has amassed a total of $21 million in funding. Their advanced technology leverages roadside sensors and cameras, collecting intricate data on trucks and trailers—a methodology perfected from counterterrorism operations to monitor equipment trends.

The Fight Against Freight Theft

At the Future of Freight Festival in November, GenLogs took a groundbreaking step by launching a free investigative service to combat freight theft—a threat costing the industry an estimated $800 million annually. This service provides carriers, brokers, and shippers the opportunity to report stolen or missing assets, enhancing the security and recovery measures in place.

The Data Keeps Growing

GenLogs has experienced significant organic growth since this initiative, now capturing over 50,000 images of trucks every five minutes. Leveraging two years of company data and more than a billion records of truck location data, it assists in fraud mitigation while opening new avenues for expansion.

"The GenLogs Freight Intelligence Platform has quickly become indispensable," says David Broering, President of NFI Integrated Logistics. "In our ultra-competitive brokerage landscape, it’s an invaluable resource for discovering new growth channels."

Outpacing Carrier Observations

According to GenLogs, their system has significantly outpaced the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in terms of carrier observations. Since November 2024, while FMCSA inspected 136,836 carriers, GenLogs identified nearly twice as many—264,743—through their sensor network. Astonishingly, over 500 million unique truck detections have been recorded, dwarfing the FMCSA's 367,920 truck inspections.

"As of [Saturday], our sensor network observed 13,029 carriers never inspected by FMCSA, increasing by 3,000 just last week," states Ryan Joyce, CEO of GenLogs, reflecting the efficacy of new sensors recently installed in California.

The Roadmap to Mexico

One of the latest features introduced by GenLogs includes insights into drayage operations and intermodal ramps. This system maps all intermodal rail ramps across U.S. Class I railroads, delivering invaluable data on shippers and receivers handling intermodal volumes to freight brokers and carriers.

With the newly acquired funds, Joyce aims to expand insights by installing sensors at pivotal ports, enabling comprehensive tracking from globally situated ports to local shippers.

Toward Mexican Expansion

Additionally, GenLogs is making strategic moves into Mexico, recently increasing its workforce with Mexico-based employees. "We aim to stretch our network along the Mexican border and eventually throughout Mexican highways," shares Joyce, expressing enthusiasm over these growth prospects.

With the invaluable partnership of investors like Morgan Hitzig from Venrock, with a counterterrorism background, and HOF Capital’s forward-thinking strategies, GenLogs is spearheading a new era in freight management.

"GenLogs is in a league of its own, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in freight management," Hitzig states emphatically.

FMCSA Active ELD Revoke List and the Importance of Compliance

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of commercial motor vehicles on American roads. As part of their oversight, they mandate the use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) to monitor drivers’ hours of service (HOS) and ensure compliance with federal regulations. However, not all ELDs meet the necessary compliance standards. When a device no longer complies with FMCSA regulations or fails to meet performance standards, it is placed on the **FMCSA ELD Revoked List**. Below, we explore some of the key reasons why an ELD might be revoked and provide a table of current revoked devices.
