Freight Industry Layoffs Impact Over 900 Workers Across the US

The freight industry across the United States is experiencing a significant downturn, with more than 948 job cuts recently reported by various companies. This marks the fourth wave of layoffs affecting the nation's supply chain industry since early October.

According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices, companies such as Amazon, GXO, UPS, DHL, and others have announced job cuts or facility closures in recent weeks. Below, we delve into the most recent announcements.

FedEx

Delivery giant FedEx will lay off 341 employees at its Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina facilities. This move is part of the company's Network 2.0 initiative to merge its Express and Ground operations, which will mainly impact couriers. These layoffs will be finalized by February 3.

Anchor Glass Container Corp.

Anchor Glass Container Corp. is set to close its Jacksonville, Florida facility, leading to 144 layoffs. The closure will be completed by February 14. Founded in 1997, the company offers packaging solutions in the beer, beverage, and food industries.

Russ Davis Wholesale

In Pueblo, Colorado, fresh produce distributor Russ Davis Wholesale announced it would lay off 109 workers by January 31, closing its facility permanently.

Mountain Valley Express LLC

Mountain Valley Express LLC will lay off 105 employees across five California facilities and one in Arizona by the end of January. This restructuring involves truck drivers and dockworkers.

McLane Foodservice Distribution

A McLane logistics facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California, will see 97 employees laid off permanently by January 27.

ShipMonk

E-commerce fulfillment provider ShipMonk is closing a facility and laying off 67 workers in Bay Shore, New York. The operations will be relocated, with layoffs finalized by April 30.

Orora Packaging Solutions

Orora Packaging Solutions plans a permanent closure of its Brea, California facility by January 5, resulting in 60 layoffs.

GXO Logistics

Third-party logistics provider GXO is closing its Colton, California facility, leading to 25 layoffs finalized by February 7.
